How Does Semaglutide Work?

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) analog

GLP-1 is a hormone that plays an important role in digestion. GLP-1 is secreted by your GI tract after you eat and signals your brain and other parts of your body that you are full. When injected once a week, Semaglutide acts like a GLP-1 and helps with weight loss by sending signals to your brain and GI tract that:

  • reduce appetite by telling your brain that you are full.
  • decrease blood sugar by improving insulin resistance.
  • slow down gastric emptying, causing you to feel full longer after a healthy meal.
